Letter: Las Vegans should take a cue from Clinton
Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 | 8:24 a.m.
Political leaders, including prime ministers, presidents and kings, as well as business leaders and leaders of nonprofit groups, all came together to discuss poverty, religious reconciliation, new governments and climate change, and they committed to undertake a project this year to help those in need in our country as well as throughout the world.
Here in Las Vegas, teachers, first responders, nurses, casino workers and most other working people can no longer afford to buy their own homes due to the inflated cost of housing.
It is my fervent hope that all local political and business leaders, and leaders of nongovernmental organizations, will come together in an effort paralleling the Clinton Global Initiative. They could discuss the problems in Las Vegas and commit their resources to projects to help homeless people, senior citizens, children and anyone struggling to make ends meet.
If Bill Clinton can make the world a better place, surely we can make Las Vegas a better place.
