Sin City and the Big Easy -- related in spirit as top destinations for partying tourists for years -- may also soon be related in a family way.
The Las Vegas City Council is scheduled to adopt New Orleans as a sister city on Wednesday.
Local police and emergency workers went to the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina left New Orleans under water and local hotels offered a place for New Orleans police and firefighters to recuperate.
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman said New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has told him how thankful for those things, and said the sister city proclamation is "a symbolic gesture evidencing our continued commitment to help any way we can."
