Letter: Proposed remedy for GM is bad medicine
Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005 | 9:14 a.m.
Paul Krugman's Nov. 27 column claims that General Motors would be better off if the United States provided taxpayer-financed health care. I'm sure that is probably true. I'm sure most major American corporations would love it if the taxpayers took over the health care obligations they agreed to. The result, however, would be a bankrupt federal government instead of bankrupt corporations.
Does Mr. Krugman really believe that the same Congress that gave us the the convoluted, eight-headed monster known as the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit could provide simple health care coverage for all Americans? Does anyone else besides me see how preposterous this belief is?
