Letter: Democrats’ false charges hurt nation
Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005 | 9:16 a.m.
Outrageous false charges against President Bush are made by Democratic extremists without a shred of evidence. Why don't they, for a change, think of our country and our protection? Their charges that President Bush lied about the intelligence data on Iraq are terribly wrong and in fact their false charges endanger America. As President Bush said Nov. 11, the message you send the terrorists is that our will to fight is weakening. Our soldiers think our leaders might withdraw from the war they're fighting so hard.
Democrats aren't genuinely watching out for us Americans but instead demonize and try to weaken President Bush in their desperate struggle to regain power. As President Bush said in his speech, in making false charges they're putting the whole country in harm's way because they want our troops withdrawn and question the basis for war that they themselves fully approved from the start.
"Outrageous," said Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., a few days ago about these false charges. He's watching out for us. He exposed critics for wrongly saying that the war was started without good cause and saying President Bush lied.
Unfounded! Indisputably they have themselves, individually and by congressional vote, approved that war be brought. They knew the same intelligence the president knew and fully consented to necessity of war.
Both congressional and United Nations mandates approved war against Iraq. And last year the bipartisan investigating committee found no twisting of intelligence and ruled that war was right.
Recently the Senate voted pro-President Bush, rejecting Democrats' attempt to specify a date troops would withdraw and instead passed a bill that the president report progress in Iraq quarterly each year. Sen. Ensign voted against specifying a date and for quarterly reporting.
Sens. Richard Durbin, Edward Kennedy and Harry Reid, among others, have made reckless, empty speculation with not a shred of evidence that intelligence data was lied about.
We must fight terrorists on their turf or, if we don't, they will kill us on our turf. Protection of our nation trumps over partisan politics.
