Letter: Overdevelopment hurts water supply
Monday, Nov. 28, 2005 | 8:43 a.m.
Regarding the Las Vegas Sun's Nov. 25 editorial, "Water too precious to waste":
Water officials who cannot pinpoint a reason for Nevadans exceeding the amount of water they used the previous year fail to understand human nature. Most of us have done our most to conserve the precious resource, only to be beaten down by unchecked growth that has left many somewhat discouraged.
I mean, really, it borders on the ridiculous to suggest more conservation while homesites are being blasted out of hillsides and surrounded by still more golf course greens and fairways. Here is something to think about: The more straws in a glass, the sooner it will be emptied.
The truth is that land-use officials look the other way while collecting more loot through the revenue that is generated by rubber-stamping any and all new construction permits.
Their conundrum lacks an understanding of over-capacity in its rawest form.
