Bush regime fighting a war it can’t win
Monday, Nov. 28, 2005 | 8:42 a.m.
It's time for the people of America to wake up and come back to reality, just like the rest of the world has.
President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney deceived the American people by fabricating Saddam Hussein's so-called "weapons of mass destruction" and also lied about Saddam's involvement in the 9-11 attacks.
It was an excuse to bypass the United Nations and go straight to war, despite the fact that most of our allies disagreed with the invasion of a country that was no threat to the United States.
Now, nearly three years later and 30 months after Bush foolishly declared major combat "over," we have 2,100 dead soldiers, thousands of innocent dead and maimed Iraqis, 15,000 to 20,000 wounded troops and $300 billion to $350 billion wasted. That could have bought a lot of health care for people here.
What makes this pitiful scenario even worse is the ignorance of Bush, Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who said that we would be hailed as liberators in Iraq and that Iraqi oil would pay for all of the death and carnage.
They were sadly mistaken on everything. One thing for certain is that U.S. troops will be in Iraq for a very long time. The tactics this administration uses against the insurgents will fail, and this war will not be won.
