Letter: English should be national language

We have many friends from several countries, including Mexico, Central and South America, Europe and Asia. Each and every one of them have become fluent in our national language, English.

My brothers and I are first-generation Americans, born of Italian parents who made it a point to learn English. Consequently we spoke only English in our home.

Our government has an obligation, not only to our nation's heritage, but to the people of our great nation to declare English as our national language, to keep us as one nation for all our people. Not one divided by different languages and cultures.
