Letter: TASC initiative is sorely needed
Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005 | 8:03 a.m.
Hal Rothman's ridiculous view, in his Nov. 13 column, that "we are already cut to the bone" when it comes to government in Nevada is just plain stupid. When every union group of state employees thinks they are entitled to a 40 percent raise just because we have the money or someone else is getting more money than they are, it is obvious that we are taking in far more than what is necessary.
The Tax and Spending Control initiative (TASC) would restore fiscal sanity to the process. If we could trust our state employee-heavy Legislature to do the right thing, we wouldn't have seen a 36 percent increase in government spending two years ago and another 24 percent increase this year. These bureaucrats are more than willing to take every last dime the taxpayers have to pad their salaries and benefits.
Now that California has dug its own grave by allowing the unions to control their state in perpetuity, it's time to send these socialist robbers to California where they can drown in their own debt. The TASC initiative allows the real taxpayers to send a message and to cut through the bleeding-heart liberal doo-doo.
