Pink and blue lights illuminate the intake towers and roadway passing over Hoover Dam on Tuesday. The colored lighting at the major gateway to Southern Nevada commemorated the March of Dimes' Prematurity Awareness Day. According to the March of Dimes, more than 4,200 babies are born prematurely each year in Nevada. The cause is unknown for nearly 50 percent of premature births. The births can result in lifelong disabilities or chronic illnesses in newborns.
