Letter: President committed political malpractice
Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005 | 9:25 a.m.
If your doctor tells you that you have cancer, you don't doubt his diagnosis. In the same fashion, if your president tells you that Saddam Hussein's Iraq is a human cancer, that he has WMDs, nuclear weapons programs, ties to al-Qaida and is a threat to the world, you believe him and want to have him, like a cancer, removed.
The Bush administration made the case for war against Iraq, presented its arguments to Congress and the American people, and we believed them. The Democrats in Congress joined with their Republican colleagues in supporting the war, because they believed him, too.
We can only imagine the howls of anger, and the cries of "traitors" that would have gone up from Republicans if they had not. But now these same Republicans are using their vote to try to excuse President Bush for his blunder in taking us to war because, they say, after all the Democrats voted for the war, too.
This was the wrong war, against the wrong foe, and the American people are paying for it in loved ones killed and wounded, and financially as well. How anyone can support, let alone vote for, these Republican scoundrels amazes me.
