Letter: Intelligent design not smart for school

Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005 | 7:23 a.m.

Why is it so difficult for the state of Kansas' Board of Education to understand that intelligent design is nothing more than religion and should not be taught in a science class as part of the scientific methodology of deductive reasoning?

Intelligent design (also known as creationism), with its many contradictions, should be taught in a religion or philosophy class. The majestic proof of evolution is derived through a convergence of empirical evidence from such diverse fields as geology, chemistry, paleontology, bio-geographic, comparative anatomy, physiology, molecular biology, genetics, astronomy, mathematics and many more.

No single discovery from all of these fields denotes proof of evolution, but together they reveal that life evolved in a certain sequence, by a particular process over time.
