Flashpoint for Nov. 13, 2005

What did they know and when did they know it? That's what current members of the Las Vegas City Council want to ask former city leaders at a Wednesday meeting that could be part theater of the absurd, part show trial and part Kabuki. The Waltersgate mess may be what some think the Libby indictment is -- a cover-up for a crime that didn't occur when developer Billy Walters got a deal Nov. 2 from a council that covered up a police report and damaging internal memos. The 2005 council that knew a lot and said very little when it voted now is trying to turn the spotlight away from themselves and onto a past administration. They want to say the past is irrelevant, although it may well be prologue. Very clever. I wonder if they will get away with it.
