Planned resort gets Henderson’s OK

A planned $1.8 billion resort six miles south of the Strip on Las Vegas Boulevard South was unanimously approved by the Henderson City Council last week.
Anthony Marnell III's resort and commercial center is planned for 79 acres at the southeast corner of St. Rose Parkway and Las Vegas Boulevard South.
Henderson recently annexed the land.
The M Resort is expected to begin construction next year and open in 2008.
The plans call for a 135,000-square-foot casino, 600,000 square feet of retail and other mixed-use space, 100,000-square-foot convention area and 1,000 hotel rooms.
"It is going to be a landmark for the city," said Henderson Councilman Steven Kirk. "When you enter the city from the I-15, that is the first thing you are going to see. I think it is going to make a statement for the citizens of Henderson."
Marnell is the son of prominent hotel developer and builder Anthony Marnell II.
The elder Marnell's firm built Wynn Las Vegas and the Bellagio and is to design and build the M Resort.
