Las Vegas curbs sales of used cars

Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005 | 8:13 a.m.

Las Vegas residents can no longer turn their driveways and sidewalks into used car lots.

The Las Vegas City Council voted 7-0 last week to limit vehicle sales from residences after Councilman Gary Reese complained that some homeowners have been essentially running used car dealerships out of their homes. Reese has said the practice results in neighborhood eyesores.

The newly adopted law, which was proposed by Reese, says homeowners are only allowed to sell one vehicle at a time, and two vehicles every 12 months, from their home.

Also, vehicles for sale in front of a residence must be owned by that homeowner, have a vehicle identification number clearly visible, and they cannot be parked on a yard.

State law allows a person to sell up to three vehicles a year without getting a dealer's license.
