Letter: Treat politicians like they treat children
Monday, Nov. 7, 2005 | 8:40 a.m.
Regarding the Las Vegas Sun's Nov. 4 story, "Burning questions at schools," I have a solution for the problem of shade on older school playground areas.
Have all Clark County School Board meetings from May through October held on the playground of any one of the 200 schools without shade structures between the hours of 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Also, in addition to the standard no smoking policy on school grounds, those in attendance will not be allowed to wear any head gear (we must avoid the possible display of gang colors), cannot bring any food or drink (they can use the safe and clean water fountains just like the kids), and cannot leave until the meeting is over except for verified medical emergencies, in which case they can lay down for a while in the nurse's office until a member of their family can leave work to pick them up and take them home.
If this were required of our amateur politicians and their beholding bureaucrats, I would bet the funds for shade structures would suddenly be found, and construction would proceed at a record pace (probably as fast as one of the new high-rise condos or hotel towers).
