Letter: Cost-cutting proposals welcome
Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005 | 8:25 a.m.
Thanks to Sun reporter Ben Grove for his insightful article last Sunday, "Ensign group aims to curb spending." Mr. Grove is on to something here.
Sen. John Ensign and his group have righted a course that otherwise could not have been sustained. His courage to come forward at this time with a proposal to save the government as much as $125 billion, half a billion alone from our own state of Nevada, awakens an aura of fiscal responsibility many feel has gone lacking in today's Congress.
Citizens should embrace these proposals as only a mere pittance of the self sacrifices that Americans have avoided paying for the Iraq war, while others have given their entire life. Kudos to Mr. Ensign -- may his kind never falter in taking a stand for future generations.
