McCarran International Airport this morning said it will open two additional checkpoint lanes at the A and B gates in an effort to accommodate growth and speed passenger traffic during peak demand periods.
The new checkpoint lanes, which will open Wednesday, will give passengers needing to reach the A and B gates a total of nine lanes.
Airport officials point out that McCarran hosts 1,066 daily departures and arrivals and reached a 2004 passenger total of nearly 41.5 million. The current seat capacity of airlines using the A and B gates is equal to about 14,000 a day when allowing for an 80 percent load factor, an airport statement said.
The checkpoint lanes are operated by the Transportation Security Administration.
