It's about time for the school kids to go home for the summer, but not before seniors give it one last hurrah for the hometown fans. Basketball and baseball all-star games were played Thursday, but the marquee event of prep all-star weekend is Saturday night's football game at Valley High.
So with the last week of prep season, it's time for a final prediction -- but first, a look at the highlights 2005 calendar:
And by the way, does anybody have any inkling why Moapa Valley invited Cheyenne to play up at Overton this week -- and why the Desert Shield accepted?
Spread Around Town
Earlier this week, the Sun Preps Desk took a day's drive to Central Utah, where the Sevier River is flooding farmland near the town of Panguitch. It seemed like there was a shortage of sandbags, and now we know why -- the coaches for this week's all-star game have stockpiled them.
Both Palo Verde's Darwin Rost and Vegas' Chris Faircloth gave plenty of reasons why the other side's team looking better than theirs. Come on, fellas, it's an all-star game, not last December's state championship.
That's okay, though. We needed to get the rust off the prognostications before completely sending the picks into summer hibernation.
