Group to begin airing anti-casino TV ads

Thursday, May 26, 2005 | 9:35 a.m.

A group opposed to plans for an Indian casino in the Columbia Gorge town of Cascade Locks, Ore., are sponsoring a television ad campaign.

The idea is to "educate Oregonians about the negative impacts of allowing the state's first off-reservation casino," said Dan Lavey, a Portland political consultant working with the anti-casino coalition.

The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs want to build the casino, which could have as many as 1,800 video gambling terminals. If their efforts to build on non-reservation land are blocked, tribal officials say they might otherwise locate the casino on tribal land near Hood River.
