Anti-casino group appeals dismissal of lawsuit

Tuesday, May 24, 2005 | 9:24 a.m.

NEW BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- An anti-casino group has appealed a federal judge's decision to dismiss its lawsuit seeking to block the construction of a casino in southwestern Michigan.

Taxpayers of Michigan Against Casinos, or TOMAC, filed its appeal Monday with the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, said Liz Thomas, a spokeswoman for the group.

A news release from the organization said the appeal was filed "to continue our fight to preserve our businesses, community and the special way of life we enjoy here in Harbor Country. Our intention is not to stall the casino -- but to stop it completely."
