NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
This is the time of year that boaters have a definite advantage over anglers who are confined to casting from shore. Boaters are doing especially well for stripers from Las Vegas Wash out to the 33 Hole in the Boulder Basin.
Threadfin shad are being netted in Las Vegas Wash by anglers who are using the small fish for bait. Anglers also are using pieces of anchovy as well as Sassy Shad and other shallow running lures to catch stripers.
Boaters have been catching stripers and channel catfish at the tires at Lake Mead Marina. Horsepower Cove and Las Vegas Wash are other areas where catfish have been caught recently.
Boaters who were fishing in the Overton Arm over the weekend had good success for stripers at Ann Marguret Cove. They had success as well for channel catfish.
Most of the stripers that were caught in the Overton Arm over the weekend were around 2 pounds. Stomach samples of the fish that were taken by Nevada Department of Wildlife creel census clerks showed the fish have been feeding on large shad.
Largemouth and smallmouth bass have been caught recently in the Muddy and Virgin rivers, St. Thomas, Las Vegas Wash, Temple Bar and Callville Bay.
