Tennessee running back Chris Brown fractured his right hand Wednesday during minicamp, an injury that will keep him out of the remaining May workouts but should allow him to be ready for training camp in July.
"I guess he was running and hit somebody's helmet with the back of his hand," coach Jeff Fisher said.
It's the latest injury for a runner who has shown flashes that he could among the best in the league since being drafted in the third round in 2003.
Brown strained his left hamstring in his first training camp, and was limited to 11 games.
A 6-foot-3, 220-pounder, Brown became only the second running back in NFL history in 2004 to rush for 100 or more yards in each of his first three starts, and he finished 2004 with a league-best 4.85-yard average per carry among backs with at least 200 carries.
He finished with 1,067 yards on 220 carries, but was limited by a sprained ankle in the opener, then turf toe.
Shelton played in 12 games at right tackle for the Cardinals last season, making nine starts, before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. A 6-foot-6, 335-pounder, Sheltonstarted 77 of the 82 games he played during six seasons with Arizona.
He had been offered in a player-for-player deal to the Buffalo Bills for running back Travis Henry.
Boston was let go by Miami on March 7 after failing a physical examination. He had been traded to the Dolphins from San Diego in March 2004 but missed last season after tearing a tendon in his left knee during training camp.
Poole signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2002 as an undrafted rookie out of Marshall University. He had 31 catches for 355 yards and two touchdowns during three seasons with the Cardinals.
A 13-year veteran cornerback, Smith signed a one-day contract with the Patriots earlier this week, and the team placed him on the reserve/retired list, allowing him to retire as a Patriot.
