April gaming win: $189 million

NEW ORLEANS -- Louisiana's state-licensed casinos took in $189.4 million from gamblers in April, an increase of just under $13 million from the previous April, state police reported Monday.
Analysts say April is typically one of the busiest months for the casino industry, as travel picks up and income tax refund checks come back. In April 2004, state-licensed casinos won $176.6 million.
All of the state's gambling markets posted gains last month.
Shreveport-Bossier City, with five dockside casino boats and the slot-machine casino at Louisiana Downs appealing to Texas and Arkansas gamblers, won just a tad under $70 million. The boats won $58.3 million, while Louisiana Downs won $8.7 million.
