Palo Verde softball coach Jaime Ditto resigned from her coaching job last Tuesday, the same day baseball coach Mike Besser was let go.
Gina Piccolo has been serving as the Panthers' interim head coach through the team's playoff games this week. The Sun learned of the change late Thursday, and Ditto did not return calls.
Palo Verde athletic director Darwin Rost declined comment other than to confirm that Piccolo was coaching the team. Athletic administrator David Pearce also had no comment.
On Wednesday, Ditto was asked by the Sun if she would be leaving the team after the season ended. Ditto denied that was the case.
Despite Ditto's absence, Palo Verde has battled back through the one-loss bracket to be one of three teams remaining in the Sunset Regional playoffs.
The Panthers will play Cimarron-Memorial at 3 p.m. today at Stephanie Lynn Craig Fields.
