Legendary horror filmmaker George Romero will receive the CineVegas Vanguard Director Award for his nearly four-decade career in film.
The director of such horror classics as "Night of the Living Dead," "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead," the 65-year-old Romero is credited with creating the "zombie" genre of films.
His latest addition to the series, "George A. Romero's Land of the Dead," has its world premiere June 18 at the festival's closing-night ceremony. "Land of the Dead" opens nationwide June 24.
Romero joins filmmaker Wim Wenders ("Paris, Texas," "The Buena Vista Social Club") as honorees for this year's CineVegas Vanguard Director Award. Past recipients of the award include David Lynch and Julian Schnabel.
Founded in 1998, the Seventh Annual CineVegas Film Festival will be held June 10-18 at Brenden Theatres Las Vegas 14. For more information: www.cinevegas.com; or call: 992-7979.
