Nevada congressmen to meet with Bodman

WASHINGTON -- Nevada's congressional delegation is scheduled to meet with Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman today to discuss the investigations into alleged falsified data in support of the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump.
The delegation has called for an independent investigation into e-mails sent by U.S. Geological Survey employees that discuss how they "fudged" information or made things up while working on technical aspects of the nuke dump.
Nevada strongly opposes the Energy Department's plan to turn Yucca Mountain, 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas, into a dump for highly radioactive waste. Nevada's congressional delegation has held up the e-mails as the latest reason why the dump should be stopped.
The Energy Department, however, has not shown any signs of backing off its goal of finalizing a license application by the end of the year, although the license may not actually go to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission at that time.
