Letter: Teachers know schools best

Tuesday, May 10, 2005 | 9:24 a.m.

I would like to respond to the May 1 letter by Kenneth Record, which was a response to retired teacher Virgil Sestini's April 26 letter. Sestini had criticized the recurring proposal to break up the Clark County School District, saying it would put teachers' careers in jeopardy. Record wrote, "Unfortunately, Mr. Sestini has spent too much time in the education business and seems to have forgotten that what's good for students is what schools are all about."

But who else would know more about what schools are all about than a longtime teacher? Record should leave the teaching to the teachers who know what's really going on in our schools.

Also, regarding his comments criticizing the teachers union, I'd like to say that without the teachers union, the teachers would get even less respect than what they get now.
