Fishing report: It’s good all over, but the best spot is still the 33 Hole

NEVADA DEPARATMENT OF WILDLIFE

LAKE MEAD: Fishing just continues to get better, according to reports from anglers fishing in the Boulder Basin and Overton Arm. The best action is still taking place from the 33 Hole to Las Vegas Wash where anglers are enjoying consistent action for striped bass. The tires at Lake Mead Marina are producing stripers and channel catfish. Shad are being netted for use as bait in Las Vegas Wash.

Two boaters who were trolling deep in the canyon near Hoover Dam on Monday told NDOW that they caught 4 stripers. A few stripers have been caught recently off Hemenway Harbor. Fishing has been slow in the Callville Bay area.

NDOW creel census clerks saw 125 stripers Saturday at the Overton Beach fish cleaning station. Most of the fish were caught in open water between St. Thomas and Overton Beach.

LAKE MOHAVE: Fishing has been gradually improving for small striped bass in the Cottonwood Cove area. Stripers weighing around a pound are being caught in the narrows above the Cottonwood Cove.

Fishing was difficult following last week's rainbow trout plant at Willow Beach. Most of the 30 anglers who were on hand only managed to catch two or three fish. This week's plant was scheduled for today.

URBAN PARK PONDS: Channel catfish will be stocked on Thursday in ponds at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park and Sunset Park in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: The area received more than two inches of rain during April. All five lakes are full as a result of the recent storms.

Rainbow trout fishing has been somewhat slow recently because the fish are attempting to spawn. NDOW believes the action will improve soon because the fish are nearing the end of their spawn. Temperatures on the area have been in the low 30s at night and warming to the low 60s in the day.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: Runoff from recent storms has raised the water level and produced murky conditions in the lake.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Rains that have soaked Lincoln County have caused high water flows into the reservoir. This has clouded the water.
