Interim director chosen

The Clark County Housing Authority board decided Wednesday to offer the job of interim executive director to a local consultant with previous experience in running such an agency.
Carl Rowe, who led the Las Vegas Housing Authority from 1991 to 1994, will be replacing Patricia Sherwin Lucas, who was also temporary, until a permanent executive director is hired.
The authority's annual operating expenses are $30 million and it helps about 4,100 low-income families in the valley find housing.
Authority counsel Scott Marquis said that hiring Rowe as a consultant to lead the agency without considering other candidates would not be in violation of procurement policies as long as it was done on a temporary basis.
The appointment, and the terms of the contract, are expected to be ratified in a May 18 board meeting.
