Horsford files amended campaign finance report

CARSON CITY -- Sen. Steven Horsford, D-North Las Vegas, said this morning that he has filed amended campaign contribution reports in response to Secretary of State Dean Heller's request for a response to allegations that Horsford had violated campaign laws.

Reno resident Chaz Higgs filed a complaint on March 31 alleging that Horsford's August campaign report was missing addresses for 24 contributors. Horsford's October report had 27 missing addresses, according to the complaint.

Higgs also pointed out an anonymous $500 in-kind contribution made Aug. 20 and another anonymous contribution of $1,000 made on Oct. 15.

Horsford, D-North Las Vegas, said his CPA did not have enough information to file complete reports. He said he has amended reports from August, October and January and submitted them to Heller's office.

Heller had given Horsford until Thursday to respond to the complaint.

Horsford said he gave himself the $1,000 anonymous contribution, but the CPA did not have the proper records to attribute the contribution. Horsford said the $500 contribution was mislabeled and was really money he gave to a campaign worker to reimburse the worker for expenses incurred.

Both were listed in campaign reports as "unknown."

Horsford said his CPA had the names but not the addresses for the other donors.
