Summer restrictions take effect

Monday, May 2, 2005 | 9:44 a.m.

Sunday marked the beginning of the summer water restrictions in the Las Vegas area.

Under the restrictions, sprinkler watering is prohibited between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Watering during those hours may result in a water waste fee, according to the Southern Nevada Water Authority, the regional agency that manages water conservation and water resources.

Hand watering is allowed at any time of the day.

There are no restrictions on what day of the week watering is allowed, but officials recommend limiting watering to four days per week.

The planting of cool season grasses and the commercial use of misting systems is also restricted during the summer. This includes tall fescue, sod, seed, plugs or stolon from Sunday through Aug. 31.

Misting systems at commercial properties may only be used between noon and 10 p.m. from June through August. They are allowed until midnight in North Las Vegas.
