Space joins Air Warfare Center

Monday, May 2, 2005 | 9:43 a.m.

The Air Force has announced it will combine elements of its Space Warfare Center with the Air Warfare Center at Nellis Air Force Base.

Creating the new Air Force Warfare Center will not involve the physical movement of personnel or facilities but will likely include a reorganization of the various missions undertaken by the commands, said Capt. Angie Blair, a spokeswoman with the Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.

The Space Warfare Center essentially uses satellite technology like that used to help battlefield commanders during Desert Storm in 1991. The Air Warfare Center oversees tactical air operations.

A work group currently is looking at what specific missions will be affected by the consolidation. They are working with a goal of integration by Oct. 1, Blair said.
