Centennial schedule

A list of centennial-related events -- some are free, others have an admission charge (Web sites are listed, if available) -- through the Founders Day celebration:

Today through May 17: Vegas Century Exhibit by the American Institute of Architects of Las Vegas. The display at the Fashion Show mall depicts 100 events, structures and people who have shaped Las Vegas.

Today through Friday: Mable Hoggard celebration honoring Nevada's first black educator at the Mable Hoggard Math and Science Magnet School, 2601 E.Sunset Road.

Today through May 31: Post Modern events at the historic downtown post office include a tour before the doors close for a major renovation to turn it into a downtown cultural center. Also featured will be historic photos, artifacts and vintage postcards. The hours are Monday-Friday 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Wednesday (also May 11, 18 and 25): Post Modern Community Conversations, 7 pm.-9 p.m. Panel discussions focusing on the evolution of Las Vegas. Topics include the history of the legal community, history of West Las Vegas, the role of women in local commerce of the valley and the role of unions in the development of Las Vegas.

Friday: Post Modern celebrates downtown, 5 p.m.-9:30 p.m. The local arts community will open the centennial edition of First Friday, an art exhibit, with a reception and performances by the Collage Dance Ensemble.

Friday-Saturday: John Rothman's Tapestry. A youth musical performance at the Clark County Library.

Saturday: Centennial Air Parade, 10 a.m., over the Las Vegas Strip and downtown Las Vegas. More than 20 vintage aircraft will make the flight in a half-hour parade that also celebrates the 85th Anniversary of the first passenger flight to Las Vegas by Randall Henderson on May 7, 1920.

Saturday-Sunday: Jazz in the Park, featuring vocalist Brenda Russell, 8 p.m., at the Clark County Government Center Amphitheater.

May 10: Founders Luncheon at Lawrys The Prime Rib from noon to 2 p.m.

May 11: Taste of the Nation at the Las Vegas Convention Center, a food tasting event. (tasteofnationlasvegas.com)

May 12: Nevada Public Radio "Talk of the Nation" live broadcast on KNPR 88.9 FM.

May 12-15: Salute to Helldorado Days at the Fremont Street Experience, noon to midnight, featuring daily entertainment, the Western Village at the Fremont Street Experience, Kangaroo Court and more.

May 13: John Rothman's Tapestry. A youth musical performance at the Summerlin Library; Fremont Street Experiences debut of a new Viva Vision show "Lucky Vegas," 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., as part of the Salute to Helldorado Days.

May 13-15: The Nevada Ballet Theatre's production of Agnes deMille's "Rodeo" at UNLV's Judy Bayley Theatre (info@nevadaballet.com).

May 14: Helldorado Days parade, downtown Las Vegas, Fourth Street, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Hundreds of parade entries including classic cars, costumed characters, floats and school bands will take over the streets of downtown;

May 15: Recreation of the land auction that marks Las Vegas' founding day, 10 a.m., as part of the Salute to Helldorado Days at the Fremont Street Experience. The unveiling of the first historical marker will follow;
