Letter: Lottery’s defeat hurts education

Thursday, March 31, 2005 | 9:06 a.m.

It is truly amazing that after numerous attempts to approve a state lottery here in Nevada, the issue has once again been defeated. It's a case of great funding and resources for our schools being shot down. School districts are pleading for more funds to reduce class sizes and improve the learning environment of all students.

Could it just be that our casino industry wants nothing to do with a state lottery? Maybe with a lottery in Nevada the newspaper headlines would not be able to read: "Nevada casino industry posts record profits." Think about it, people.
