Rice to retire after more than 33 years with School District

Associate Superintendent of Human Resources George Ann Rice will retire in July after more than 33 years with the Clark County School District.

The notice of Rice's resignation appears in the agenda for next week's Clark County School Board meeting.

Rice spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at improving the district's success rate in recruiting and keeping teachers. The human resources division is frequently visited by education officials from across the country seeking to replicate the district's techniques.

"There are going to be some big shoes to fill but there are good, healthy practices and footsteps to follow," said Clark County School Board member Susan Brager-Wellman. "George Ann Rice is a stand-alone lady who has done an incredible job for all of us."

Rice practiced law for five years in California before joining the school district and has also passed the Nevada State Bar.

As associate superintendent, Rice was responsible for overseeing the district's 15,000 teachers, 8,000 support employees and 1,100 administrators.

Rice was traveling Thursday and could not be immediately reached for comment.
