Growth task force OKs part of report to commissioners
Wednesday, March 23, 2005 | 9:37 a.m.
The Clark County Growth Task Force on Tuesday approved sections of the preliminary report it will present to the Clark County Commission on April 5 which included recommendations for improving water quality and creating affordable housing.
The task force will likely meet twice before it presents a series of recommendations to the County Commissioners, once on March 29 and again on March 31 if needed.
Before the self-imposed April 5 deadline, the task force will need to approve more than 20 sections to be included in the report.
The 17-member group inched closer to completion Tuesday by finalizing a section of the report on improving environmental health that includes holding discussions on how to reduce air pollution and improving water quality.
The task force also approved recommendations on development. Those items recommended for further discussion include encouraging developers to build affordable housing and coordinating development in the county with transportation options.
On March 8, the task force chose five core issues to focus on, including encouraging mixed use development, combining residential and business uses into single projects and managing transportation, land use and air quality in developments.
The task force has been meeting for a year. Go to the county Web site, www.accessclarkcounty.com, for more information about the task force and its upcoming public meetings.
