Letter: Nation’s basic principles: 10 Commandments
Tuesday, March 22, 2005 | 9:03 a.m.
In response to Terry E Peele's letter of March 16, headlined "Government's authority is from people, not God":
May we be reminded that laws, such as you shall not murder, steal, or bear false witness, are commands given by the Judeo-Christian God, who the Bible claims is Jesus, and not by the "people." The people simply enforce what God has previously commanded. The government's true role is to enforce this law, and not to decide for itself what is right and what is wrong.
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia tells no lie in stating, "The government derives its authority from God." While non-Christians continue to fight to disprove this historical fact, our nation's founding principles are indeed the Ten Commandments.
Secular America today is striving tenaciously to escape from the Christian standard of morality. Roe v. Wade, same-sex marriages, prayer out of schools and the distortion of the true meaning of the First Amendment (get God out of everything!) are great proofs of this.
Although there are issues with the government, I don't think people have a problem with it. I think their problem lies with God. They simply refuse to submit to His authority.
