Ryan Moore sets new benchmark for wins

UNLV senior Ryan Moore became the winningest golfer in UNLV history after shooting a final-round 4-under-par 68 on Sunday to win the individual title at the Hall of Fame Invitational at 10-under for the tournament at Redstone Golf Club (par 72, 7,352 yards).

Moore's 10-under-par 206 gave him his third individual title of the season and seventh of his career. Before this weekend's tournament, Moore was tied with Warren Schutte (1989-93) for most career victories in program history at six apiece.

Moore finished one stroke ahead of Oklahoma State's Tyler Leon and two shots ahead of UNLV teammate Andres Gonzales.

UNLV sweeps first MWC series of season

UNLV's offense continued to pound away at Air Force pitching Sunday, belting three home runs in the Rebels' 13-2 win at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

Justin Tellam, Tyler Beranek and Chris Bonnell each hit solo shots and UNLV (9-15, 3-0 Mountain West Conference) swept Air Force (4-16,0-3).

UNLV starter Matt Luca (2-4) pitched five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out four to get the win.

Rebels cap weekend with a 4-3 victory

The 47th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team won the doubles point and split singles Sunday to down No. 75 Portland 4-3 in a neutral-site match played at the Appleton Outdoor Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho.

The Rebels posted a 2-1 mark in their weekend Idaho swing.

UNLV (11-4), once again playing without No. 2 player Aviram Salomon because of injury, got doubles victories from Henner Nehles and Sean Hubbard at the No. 2 spot and Martin Redelinghuys and Jonathan Hooper at No. 3 to take the lead.

Russian wins gold, Cohen captures silver

Irina Slutskaya won the gold medal for the second time at the world championships in Moscow, combining strength and style to cap an extraordinary season in which she prevailed despite a heart ailment and knee injury.

The Russian delivered a draining and dramatic program that featured seven clean triples to the delight of the home crowd.

Sasha Cohen of the United States won the silver medal for the second straight year, and Carolina Kostner of Italy took the bronze. Michelle Kwan, the five-time world champion, was fourth, the first time since 1996 the American finished a world championship without a medal.
