Reid among 7 senators heading to Middle East

WASHINGTON -- Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., next week will lead a bipartisan group of seven senators to the Middle East to focus on security issues. But for security reasons, trip details are not being released, Reid's office said.

The Senate is scheduled to be in session briefly on Monday but Congress is then expected to be in recess for a two-week spring break until April 4.

The lawmakers trip is aimed at studying how the United States can better support the establishment of democracies.

"This is a critical time for the peace process in the Middle East, and for democratic change in several other nations," Reid said. "Many of the developments hang tenuously in the balance."

Reid said he also intends to visit with Nevada military servicemen and women serving in the area.
