Young Artist Concert scheduled

The Henderson Civic Symphony will host its 11th annual Young Artist Concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St.

The concert showcases the talents of five local musicians ranging in age from 11 to 17. Prior to the performance at 1 p.m., the symphony will host a discussion of the featured music and the lives of the composers.

Featured young artists include: Paulina Haduaong, 13, violin; Winsey Lam, 11, piano; James Reinarz, 17, violin; Jeremy Rhizor, 15, violin; and Danielle Swain, 16, violin.

Henderson hosts 'Shades West'

The Gallery at Liberty Pointe, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway inside the Henderson Multigenerational Center, is hosting "Shades West," an exhibit featuring the work of Henderson artist Bill Rowe now through April 22.

The Gallery is open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.; weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

A public reception will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at which attendees can meet the artist. The reception and exhibit are sponsored by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.

Soroptimists will celebrate history

As part of the Las Vegas Centennial project, a program HERstory: Soroptimism in Southern Nevada, a Historial Retrospective, will begin with a mixer/social at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Women's Archives at the Lied Library on the UNLV campus.

State Supreme Court Chief Justice Nancy Becker will be the guest speaker. Guests will learn about women and Soroptimists in the history of Nevada, about the purpose of the archives and how to make a submission to the archives.

Soroptimist is an international volunteer service organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world.

The Shadow Hills Celebration choir

and the Drama Company will present "Eyes of Faith," a free musical next week at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the church, 7811 W. Vegas Drive. Free child care is offered for children Pre-K and younger. For addition information, call 880-7811.

The first movie to be shown

in the fourth annual Movie Madness Series is "Space Jam," which will begin at dusk Friday at Eldorado Park, 5900 Camino Eldorado Blvd., North Las Vegas. Admission is free. The series is presented by North Las Vegas and Aliante master planned community. Picnic lunches are encouraged. Call 633-2418.
