UNR students arrested; fake licenses confiscated

SUN CAPITAL BUREAU

CARSON CITY -- Two students at UNR were arrested and up to 200 fake driver's licenses were confiscated in a raid Tuesday at a fraternity house in Reno.

The bogus licenses were sold for about $100 each to young people, who used them to buy liquor and to get into age-restricted nightclubs, the state Department of Motor Vehicles said.

Tom Jacobs, spokesman for the department, estimated that more than 100 of the fake licenses were sold.

Brandon Scott Wright, 19, was arrested shortly after midnight at the Sigma Nu fraternity house on six felony counts of producing fake licenses. Christopher P. Bosco, 19, of Truckee was arrested Monday night while allegedly selling two licenses to a confidential informant.

Jacobs said there was no link between this operation and the break-in March 7 at the DMV office in North Las Vegas where 1,700 blank driver's licenses were stolen plus a computer and other equipment.

Jacobs said Wright had "a high quality" computer plus equipment that enabled him to makes these fake licenses.

After Bosco's arrest, additional information discovered during the investigation led officials to Wright. University police took part in the arrest.
