Letter: Social Security’s demise GOP goal

I agree with the point Paul Krugman made in his column you published Feb. 27, headlined, "Right mounts smear campaign against AARP." He said what I've been saying for years, that Republicans hate and have always hated Social Security and have always been dedicated to ending it.

I respect the Republicans of the past, however. They at least were up front in shouting for Social Security's demise. That is more than anyone in the Bush administration is doing. Instead, they are claiming they are trying to "save" Social Security, knowing their true objective all the while.

Are there any seniors who want to take back their ill-advised, self-destructive and, yes, I'm sorry to say, stupid vote for President Bush? I hope so.
