Red Cross hosts free CPR classes
The Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross will host its Super CPR Saturday at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Spring Valley Hospital, 5400 S. Rainbow Blvd. Residents can take a free, three-hour CPR course and obtain certification.
Red Cross holds the event to provide free training to the public in the lifesaving skill of CPR.

Free diabetes screenings planned
The Clark County Health District and Community Partners will offer free diabetes screenings 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Vons, 1601 W. Craig Road, North Las Vegas.
The event is held to raise awareness about diabetes, provide screening and information on effective interventions that can prevent or delay the development of serious health complications. Health care and self-management referral information will also be available onsite.

Poets' Corner set at West LV center
The West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd., will present The Poets' Corner 7 p.m. Friday at the center. Keith Brantley and Pendelita Toney will host the forum for established poets and open mike participants.

Also at the West Las Vegas Arts Center in recognition of Women's Month, Sisters in Society Taking Action welcomes Anika Johnson-Cunningham who will participate in a ceremony 3 p.m. Sunday to honor girls involved in the Rites of Passage.
The program assists in the transition from childhood to adult society.

Women invited to join Red Hat
Women at least 50 years of age are invited to the new Red Hat Society chapter meeting 1 p.m. Tuesday at 3343 W. Washington Ave.
Attendees are encouraged to wear a red hat and clashing purple outfit. Red Hat Society founder Sue Ellen Cooper took on the purple dress and red hat costume suggested in the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph.
The society's creed is: "There is fun after 50 (and before) for for women of all walks of life."

Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge
will host a volunteer day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Participants will have an opportunity to get a sneak peek of the refuge, which is currently under reconstruction. To sign up, visit www.getoutdoorsnevada.org or call 895-4890 by Thursday.
The Theater Company presents "Above My Head"
starring Remi Richard 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. Admission is free. Call 507-3630.
