Commission issues priorities

The Clark County Commission on Tuesday quietly established its list of priorities for the coming year.

The commission included its priorities in the portion of its regular agenda that calls for a consent vote, which was unanimous and made without discussion of the strategic priorities. The commission and county staff worked on the annual priorities during a workshop Feb. 11.

The priorities passed Tuesday were: improve air quality and protection of natural resources; develop a plan to meet future needs for airports; improve outcomes for children and their families in the county's social service programs; work with police, fire and other agencies to increase public safety.

Also among the priorities: establish and maintain a safe, accessible transportation system while implementing parks, flood control and trails projects; deliver safe recreational services in county parks; continue educating the public on drought and water conservation issues.

Priorities also included the enhancement of quality, cost-effective health care while streamlining services to the indigent; maintain a working relationship among those working within the county-funded criminal justice system; and adopt the recommendations coming from the county's Growth Management Task Force while improving land-use planning and regulation.
