Navajo chapter pushing for casino near Flagstaff

Monday, March 14, 2005 | 9:33 a.m.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Leaders of the Navajo Nation's Leupp chapter have already requested that a plan be drawn up for the first casino on the Navajo reservation.

The plan would call for a 600-slot machine casino with a hotel, convention center, rodeo ground and other amenities in the southwest corner of the reservation.

"We believe we can help the Navajo Nation," Chapter President Thomas L. Cody told an economic development committee of the Navajo Nation Council. "We're close to I-40. We're close to Flagstaff."
