Pay raise for RTC official is approved

The Regional Transportation Commission on Thursday approved a pay raise for the agency's general manager, putting him among the highest-paid public officials in Clark County.

Jacob Snow, who has sat at the RTC's helm since 1999 and oversees a $136 million operating budget, is expected to earn $177,894 this year after retroactive 3 percent cost-of-living and 5 percent merit raises. Snow earned almost $165,000 last year, Sue Christiansen, an RTC spokeswoman, said.

The increase will be retroactive to Jan. 1, she said.

Commissioners at the board's monthly meeting at the Clark County Government Center approved the raise 5-0. Las Vegas Councilman Michael Mack, Henderson Councilman Andy Hafen and North Las Vegas City Councilwoman Shari Buck, each of whom sit on the commission, were absent from the meeting.

Snow's salary puts him just shy of Clark County Manager Thom Reilly, who in July received a 2.5 percent cost of living raise that put his gross pay at roughly $185,000 a year. A Senate Bill passed in 2003 raised Sheriff Bill Young's salary to more than $134,000 a year and Clark County District Attorney David Roger's annual pay to almost $156,000.

Since he took the post, Snow, 40, has been elected to the American Public Transportation Association board of directors and has been received awards from the Association on Metropolitan Planning Organizations and is widely credited with working to pass the $2.7 billion Question 10 tax package in 2002.
