Deadline nears for voting signup

Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson residents who are not registered to vote have until Tuesday night to register for the April 5 city primaries.

The city clerk's offices in each of those cities will remain open through the weekend and past their normal operating hours through Tuesday for voter registration only. People can register for the June 7 general election until May 17.

Early voting at various locations starts March 19 in Las Vegas and Henderson. North Las Vegas kicks off early voting on Wednesday at City Hall, 2220 Civic Center Drive, and has voting at other locations in the city starting March 19. Early voting goes through April 1 in all three cities.

The Las Vegas City Clerk, which normally registers people until 5 p.m. five days a week, will be open from 8 a.m. through 9 p.m. Friday through Tuesday. It is located at 400 Stewart Ave. For more information on where to vote early, call 386-9108.

The North Las Vegas clerk's office, which is normally closed on Friday and the weekends, will operate 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. through Tuesday. For more information on where to vote early, call 633-1030.

The Henderson clerk's office, which is usually open until 5:30 p.m. on Friday and closed on weekends, will be open until 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. It is located at 240 Water St. For more information on where to vote early, call 267-1400.

Henderson has released its voters guide to help residents learn more about the candidates for the 5 primary.

The bilingual voter guides are available at several city buildings. They outline the races and give information on registration and early voting.

The Henderson primary will feature three candidates for mayor. Incumbent Jim Gibson faces challengers Susan Gillean-Bedell and Laurie Robinson. If any candidate get 50 percent, no vote for mayor is necessary on June 7.

In other primaries, four people are running for a newly created Municipal Court in Henderson.

Eleven candidates are running to replace Las Vegas Councilman Michael Mack.

In North Las Vegas, six candidates are on the ballot for a newly created Municipal Court judge.

No primary will be held April 5 in Boulder City. Five candidates will vye for two council seats on June 7.
