Las Vegas man pleads guilty in mail fraud case

Thursday, March 10, 2005 | 11:21 a.m.

A Las Vegas man pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston to five counts of mail fraud and four counts of money laundering.

Prosecutors claimed that Michael Howard, former West Coast national account manager for Muro Pharmaceuticals, submitted nearly $500,000 in phony expense invoices to his employer between October 1999 and October 2002.

On Wednesday, prosecutors said that Howard was having Muro send reimbursement checks to inactive companies that he had established.

Howard faces up to 20 years in prison, three years of probation and a $250,000 fine for each count of mail fraud. He faces similar prison and probation terms, as well as a $500,000 fine, for each money laundering charge. Sentencing is scheduled for June 2.
