Guilty plea entered in tax evasion
A Las Vegas man has pleaded guilty to three counts of income tax evasion for failing to pay $12,390 owed the government, authorities announced this morning.
Gene Agnis accrued the tax debt after failing to pay taxes in 1999, 2000 and 2001, according to the plea agreement filed in U.S. District Court. Agnis concealed his true income for those years by using his nephew's Social Security number on credit applications and using a nominee to purchase property, authorities said.
Driver killed by gravel truck is ID'd
A driver who was killed when his car was hit by a tractor-trailer that allegedly had failed to stop at a red light at Craig Road and Rancho Drive has been identified as Richard Daniel Loney, 52, of Las Vegas.
Police said Loney was making a left turn when a 1993 Kenworth gravel truck went through a red light and hit Loney's 2005 Buick Le Sabre on the driver's side. Police said the truck driver, Lewis Leon Patrick, 48, of Henderson, was to be cited for failure to obey a traffic device.
A motorcyclist killed Monday morning
when he was struck by a pickup truck on Paradise Road near Flamingo Road has been identified as 40-year-old Jeffrey Layne Bays of Las Vegas. Police said a Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Jose Lepe-Jiminez, 32, of North Las Vegas hit him while making an illegal U-turn.
