Dahl named judge of the year

The Nevada Judges Association says its judge of the year is North Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Stephen Dahl,

The association, which is comprised of justices of the peace and municipal throughout the state, cited Dahl's service to the association and his involvement in the community in making the selection.

Dahl currently serves as first vice president for the association and has served on its board of directors since 2001.

The judge is considered a leader in the creation and implementation of the short jury trials system in the state's justice courts and also serves a sponsor for the "Life of Crime' adult/youth education program, the association said in its press release.

Dahl was elected to his North Las Vegas judgeship in 1994 and was re-elected in 2000. He began practicing law in Southern Nevada in 1983. For the six and a half years prior to being elected judge, he was chief deputy over the death penalty litigation section of the Clark County public defender's office.
